When can you say we?

We as in us, my team. I really think the only time you can see we is when A) your playing for that team (duh) B) your an alum of the school C) your a current student of the school or D) you live in a city that has a pro team and your tax dollars built their stadium (if it's privatley built your just a fan and you cant say we)

i disagree here my friend. when you get to be an older person like myself, and been rooting for a specific team for 30 plus years, you have the right to feel like part of the franchise. i grew up in cleveland (suburbs) and remember seeing old browns and indians games as a little boy. i feel like they are a huge part of my life. i feel like i have the right to include myself in anything the browns or indians do.

well obviously, my tax dollars didn't go to build jabobs field or cleveland browns stadium since i lived in wise county for 20 plus years. no need for sarcasm or attempted humiliation ghostlyOne.

I buy tickets and will be a FSU booster soon. So I say we.

If ya pay to see 'em you can say we. That's my opinion.

If your at a game rootin' on your favorite team, and your buddie ask's whos winning, most people's reply is "us" or "them".

Completely agree. I listened to this debate on Fox Sports Radio a few weeks ago and it was their consensus that if you were not an alumn then you had no right to use the word "we" when referring to your favorite college team. Personally, I'd go one step further and not allow the "we" unless you actually have played for that team. It's not like "we" won the game, it was the players that did all of the work.

You can't use we unless you played? So I guess you can't see 'we' when describing yourself as American, unless of course you played aka 'fought' for the country.

Thats crazy!!!!!!!!!!! Think about it if you buy the tickets you can say we.If you have been chearing for that team all of your life you can say we!!!

If you put time, effort, or money into something, I would classify it as the we. If someone goes to UT, their tuition money helps provide for the players. Alumni help pay for the scholarships, facilities, there.

Yes the alumni do not play the games, but they do provide the means for the students to even be there in the first place. The fans pay for the university to have lots of things (merchandise profits funnel through the system). So if I buy 2 shirts, a hat, a ticket, or whatever, then I am contributing to the team. Now if I support them, they are my team, then yes I say 'we'.

Do you discount when a coach comes out and says "well we need to protect the ball more in the second half". Is the coach actually going out there and protect the ball? No, he's part of the team.

There are different versions of 'we' of course, is the 'we' only the players who play, so the guys who are on the team and never see the field or court, they are not part of it? Is the 'we' the whole team? Is the 'we' the team which includes coaching staff? Or is there a 'we' that sort of encompasses more?
